Artist of the Month for April 2015 is Ardit Cuni, from Albania!
Ardit Cuni is a 19-year-old singer and multi-talented showman from Albania who has built his artistic career on talent and strong willpower. He has collaborated with the most famous singers in Albania and is currently working on his first album that will include singles, collaborations and covers.
At the beginning of 2016 Ardit digitally released One Life, a co-operation with 14-year-old Omar Arnaout, winner of the Rumanian Next Star talent show and well known in the Arabic-speaking region.
A music video for One Life will be released in February 2016 and Ardit Cuni told us he’ll be on a TV tour to promote both song and video.
When and why did you start making music?
I started making music when I was 8 years old, in 2004, the year Albania first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. I was inspired by performances like Sakis Rouvas (NB: Greek singer who participated in the ESC many times) and Ruslana (NB: Ukrainian singer who won the ESC in 2004). I said to myself let’s do it!
A lot of people had told me that I could sing and I was also a dancer, so it was the perfect time to begin. I participated at a festival in my city and I won third place. That’s how it started…
What was your first ever job?
Well, actually I never had a job since I’ve always been doing sports and stuff – I’ve also been a champion in athletics and karate. I’ve done a lot of things, I don’t know if you can call them work
How did you earn your first money as a musician?
I’ve always won my money by singing in different events and open lounges in my city.
Live or studio, what suits you best?
I don’t want to lie so I must say both of them. When I’m in studio I think about creating and making something that my fans will like, but when I play live I sing with all my heart and love – my fans love my improvisation moments and the kind of performances that are impossible in a studio
Your favorite part of a music production
Composing is interesting but I must confess that moment when you are waiting impatiently to listen to the final master is the best, haha!
The lowest moment of your career?
I don’t want to call any of my past moments the lowest. Everything happens at its time, if I look back and say I didn’t perform or sing well years ago… well, that would be normal. Things have changed and everything, in its time, has its own beauty.
The highest moment of your career so far
My collaboration with the producer of Loreeen’s Euphoria, the song that won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012, which ranked my last song in the Top20 in the iTunes Dance Charts in Sweden.
Where would you like to live, musically speaking?
I would like to be in the UK or in the USA, not because of the people but because the music industry works well there and every singer has chances.
Your idea of a perfect gig
Big stage, amazing audience, stunning performances and super lighting!
Your favorite outfit for a gig
If it’s for color, I’d say white, black or red.
Your favorite music instrument
The most musical natural sound
The perfect foreign language to sing
English, of course!
Which works are you most proud of?
My two last songs and music videos are my masterpieces so far.
What is the most important skill required – besides talent – to become a successful musician?
I’ve always said this in different interviews, to be successful talent is not enough, there is more talent than you can imagine out there, so many singers with great voices! In order to succeed you need to be a good manager of yourself and a good performer. Always make sure you deliver something new and special to your fans.
What keeps you up at night with regard to your music career?
Which international singer should I aim to do my next collaboration with?
The best concert you’ve seen in the audience
Jessie J and Anastacia, when they performed in Albania.
The most beautiful album cover ever?
The last track you listened to?
Adele, Hello, in the car yesterday.
The last single/EP/album you bought?
25 by Adele.
Describe your music
Compassionate, emotional, exciting, powerful, surprising.
