What makes a good music video? Apart from good music, of course. Is it story-telling? Do you necessarily need a kick-ass dance routine? What is better, to record a live performance or a staged studio setting? Do you need a famous director or is a friend with a steady hand enough? Apparently, these questions have no answers yet.
According to Rolling Stone the most beautiful music video of all time is a dance video, the dance video, actually: Michael Jackson’s Thriller. No wonder, raise your hand if you don’t know at least a couple of steps! Second place is completely different, Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer. Maybe the technology is a bit out-of-date but his face turning into all sorts of things, in step-motion, is legendary. Third is Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit – the video that more or less defined the canons of grunge.
According to Billboard the best music video of the 80s is, again, Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The best video of the 90s is the teen Britney Spear’s Baby One More Time and the best music video of the 00s is Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.
The first MTV Video Music Award was held in 1984 and The Cars won with their video You Might Think. The next award ceremony will take place in August 2016, incumbent is Taylor Swift with Bad Blood.
What about Global Rockstar? We never talked about videos before! In order to participate in Global Rockstar, artists can upload both audio and video files and we actually always stress that the video is not necessary.
Well, we must admit that you people uploaded some pretty good stuff to the site… shall we vote and choose the best music video of 2015 on Global Rockstar?
Here we go!
Star – March 1, 2016 at 10:00am CET
The voting is similar to Global Rockstar 2015 and the Artist of the Year 2015 contests: Free social media shares count as 1x vote and MEGAVOTES for this contest count for 3x votes.
End – April 15, 2016 at 10:00am CET
The artist at the top of the charts by the end of the VOTY contest will be the winner.
The Global Rockstar jury handpicked 107 videos that captured our imagination. You find them all in the charts: click around, listen to them and watch them, then decide…
Our partner Soundcraft by HARMAN kindly supplied the prize.
The Video of the Year wins a Soundcraft Ui12 – a 12-input Remote-Controlled Digital Mixer worth 459,- EUR!
“Ui12 packs a complete digital mixing system into a compact, road-rugged stagebox format, with built-in wi-fi and the ability to be controlled by any connected device via a standard web browser – no Apps, no OS limitations, no constraints on how or where you mix.”
Peace and love,
The Global Rockstar Team
PS Please note that if you are a participant of the Video of the Year 2015 contest, this post doesn’t exclude you from reading the hardcore rules for participation.
